Guy Turnbull – Tungskin Thirty

3rd April 2019

Norfolk based Guy Turnbull has kept things rolling this spring with another corking mirror of 30lb 14oz, caught on his trusty Tungskin pop up rig!

‘After my last capture I have kept in touch with the lake, with regular visits and a lot of watching. I noticed the fish were still visiting the area I’d caught the last 2 fish from at the same time most mornings – as the morning went on they would push out into the middle of the lake where they seem to stay for the most part of the day.

I planned my next session with the better weather and when I arrived at the lake the swim that commands the area of water where I had been seeing them was free, so the bucket was soon in there. As I went into the first night everything seemed really dead and I wasn’t seeing much – I was thinking of a move but thought I would give it one night to see if they turned up in the morning.

Night passed with not even a beep. I was sitting there watching as the light was coming through and I saw one show near the area and my confidence was soon sky high again. The right hand rod pulled up tight, the line pinged from the clip and I was soon into a hard fighting fish. It was a heavy old weight and it was definitely holding its own. After a long hard battle, I slipped the net under what looked like another good fish. On the scales it pulled the needle past the 30lb mark and that put another 30 under the belt in March on my simple Tungskin rigs, I was buzzing!
