Luke Wallace – Club Lake’s ‘Charlie’
18th February 2020
Luke Wallace recently caught this incredible looking and much sought-after old mirror known ‘Charlie‘ from his local club water, on his 4th night on the pond!
It all began by choosing a swim that gets fairly neglected, a tight swim that fishes up to couple of reed beds with a couple of big gaps that look beyond into the open water.
‘I went down the night before to bait up with some 12mm Sticky Manilla baits and spread around two kilo’s over two separate spots. I got down on the Friday after work and saw 3 different fish show in the open water behind my gaps in the reeds which filled me with confidence. I’m pretty sure I also saw the big mirror show 4 times in the space of a minute, so I was rubbing my hands together… especially with it being the full moon as well!’
Luke’s rigs consisted of the new Camsoft Semi-Stiff ‘on test’ which I have loads of faith in! The rigs were tied D-Rig style with hook ring swivels and the bait attached was a 15mm Manilla wafter. I elected to fish just 10 baits over each rod after the previous baiting of the area – it paid off with the big mirror going 35lb 14oz! – I also landed an upper double common, the bites being just 5 minutes apart.’
What a great start on the venue and a superb result so early in the year!
