Despite so much progress and development in the rig/terminal tackle world, my mainstay approach remains pretty much unchanged for the past few decades. There’s been tweaks here and there, and I’ve had the odd mess about with variations on a theme, but I’ve nearly always gone back to the same old rigs for the same old angling scenarios, because they work. It’s all about reliability, and the key element is called confidence, so once you have caught on a particular presentation in a variety of situations and can adapt those presentations to suit most scenarios you are onto a winner!

1. Pop-ups - The Multi-Hinge.
 This is a variation on Mike Kavanagh’s original Multi-Rig that incorporates a super stiff hook section, tied with Recoil or a similar stiff materials. It is tied to either a long, soft boom for fishing over dirtier/weedier zones, or a shorter stiffer boom for presenting the hookbait on harder areas. Usually these are fished over a wide spread of bait, but you can tie it to fish the pop up ultra-low if so required.


2.  Bottom Baits – The Stiff-D rig. For bottom baits; whether that’s wafters, tigers, maggot and caster, etc... This classic, tangle resistant and highly efficient hooker is my choice for presenting over heavy baited zones either particle, boilie or naturals. It’s my favourite rig for fishing hard spots and pre-baited areas, let’s say any scenario where I want to use a lot of bait in a tight spot.  As with the Multi-Hinge, they rarely fall off either…
